Monzoom.xyz’s inaugural programme Monzoom Zchool was launched under soft/WALL/studs’s Beyond Repair programme for National Gallery Singapore and Singapore Art Museum’s Proposals for Novel Ways of Being initiative, taking place from October to November 2020 as a series of online gatherings over Zoom to share artistic work, as well as ideas and feelings around art-making amidst times of instability, insecurity, and change. Each session, Kenneth and Weixin hosted and/or moderated, working in tandem with different groups of invited artists and individuals to create an event of online gathering & sharing, based in but not limited to Singapore art community networks and bringing together people based in (and from) diverse geo-locations.
The contributors platformed in Monzoom Zchool were the emerging Singapore-based artists: Aki Hassan, Taufiq Rahman, radioriotgrrrl (Nadirah Khalid & Mengju Lin), as well as artist collectives Pure Ever and desigirl69 (Chand Chandramohan & Divaagar), and the audience consisted of members from local arts universities, communities and institutions as well as international practitioners from Australia, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
